Couples’ Course (Marriage Course)
Couples’ Course (The Marriage Course)
We are running a course for couples (“The Marriage Course”) at All Saints’ Church, North Drive/Valeway Avenue this Autumn. The course will be on seven Wednesday nights, from 7.00 to around 9.45 p.m. We will be starting on 26th October and we would like to invite any couples to do the Course with us.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
- Any couple who are married or in a long-tem cohabiting relationship of more than one year.
- Any couple who want their relationship to be the best it can be.
- The Marriage Course is based on Christian principles, but it is designed for people of any faith or none.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We aim to make the Course a pleasurable and relaxing experience.
Each evening begins with two courses of a candle-lit meal (normally three choices for each course). There is then a talk (live or on DVD), broken up by short opportunities for couples to discuss issues raised.
The talks are supported by a workbook in which individuals and couples can keep a record of what they talk about.
At the end of the talk there is a half-hour session for couples to discuss issues together more deeply, during which pudding, tea and coffee are served. Each evening concludes with a short “wrap-up” session.
WE LIKE TO STRESS THREE THINGS:
- All discussion is within couples, there is no opportunity for anybody (except, possibly, us!) to embarrass themselves or each other.
- The course is NOT just for couples who are experiencing relationship problems. We are not RELATE and we do not offer counselling (although we can arrange it if people wish). We think of the Course as “relationship enhancement” – a sort of MOT for your relationship. We have found that couples with very different lengths of relationship and very different life-histories have gained greatly from the Course.
- The aim of the Course is to build and strengthen relationships, not to preach. It should be of equal benefit to people of all faith or none.
WHAT DOES IT COST?:
The only charge we make is for the workbooks – £2 per person. Everything else, including the meal, is free.
If you, or any couples you know, would like to take the Course, please contact Jess and Brian Rowe on 01253 883466 or email browe300@btinternet.com or contact Sue Watt in the Church Office on 01253 823904 or at office@anchorsholme.org.uk. It would be very helpful if couples would register their interest before 25th September but if that is not possible we can consider applications up to 13th October.
